The End Of Windows 7

As of January 14, 2020, Microsoft will no longer be supporting Windows 7. What does that mean for users who are still on the sun setting software?

PCs operating on Windows 7 will continue to run but can no longer receive any security updates. In addition, Microsoft customer service will no longer be available to provide Windows 7 technical support. Users can continue to use Windows 7, but after support has ended, devices will become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses. Alternatively, upgrading to Windows 10 means continuity receiving the latest security updates and much safer data storage. An upgrade could be applied to a compatible Windows 7 PC with these requirements and a full license.

For IT administrators, the switch to Windows 10 means ease of use and peace of mind. The new operating system will keep desktop environments secure with built-in endpoint protection and easier access to the latest security updates. Plus, users enjoy improved information protection, integrated identity, and access management, as well as the most up-to-date experience in all of their applications. The new version of Windows is also known for quicker boot times and loading speeds so you spend less time waiting and more time working.

While the Windows 10 free upgrade period ended on July 29, 2016, there are several volume and educational discounts available to qualified users. Schools with certain volume license agreements may be eligible to upgrade to Windows 10 for no additional cost. For schools with volume license agreements such as Microsoft 365 A3 or A5, a license for Windows 10 is included for all of your devices. Schools with Microsoft 365 A1 are licensed to upgrade the edition of Windows 7 to the same edition of Windows 10. The actual cost of upgrading will depend on the volume and level of licensing.
